Reading for Pleasure

At Stanion Primary School we strongly believe in not only promoting reading as a key to help us unlock all elements of our learning, but also as a way to help us enjoy ourselves.

As a staff we all enjoy reading and discovering new texts alongside the children. A key part of this is all staff having an understanding of relevant and exciting new books and authors and spending time promoting these to the children. One of the key ways to get the children engaged in reading, we have found, is by simply showing an interest in what is being read and allowing the children to see the staff enjoying books too. We all love 'Reading for Pleasure' time in our classrooms in which children can explore and enjoy books and texts with their friends as well as reading stories to our classes at the end of each day.

We all enjoy creating welcoming and engaging reading environments for the children in our classrooms and allowing them time to explore these areas, alongside our well-stocked library.

As part of building our reading communities we look forward to welcoming parents into school again during 2022-23 to spend time enjoying reading alongside their children - more details to follow in the Autumn term!!

We are looking forward to relaunching our 'Reading for Pleasure Challenge' again for the whole community to enjoy and full details can be found on the attached newsletter for Autumn 2022 below. The books which we are going to be enjoying during the Autumn term are:

Key Stage 1:                                                              Key Stage 2:

Lastly, another book which I personally would recommend (for adults) is the book below. I was lucky enough to be gifted this book at the end of last year by Mrs Pack, who is our reading governor, and I really enjoyed escaping into it over the Summer holidays.

As always, if you read and enjoy any of these books, please let us know and we may include your quote and comments on our display board in the library.
