Our Learning and Curriculum

Our learning and curriculum is driven by our Stanion Super Friends which are the skills and traits we would like our children to develop and demonstrate as they travel through our school. These skills help our children socially, emotionally and academically to ensure that they are fully prepared for the transition to secondary school. Check out our Stanion Super Friends page to find out more!

Due to our mixed - year group class structure, our curriculum has been designed using a two-year rolling programme. We are incredibly proud of our curriculum and know that it ensures breadth and progression of skills for the children as well as the opportunity to continually develop 'sticky knowledge' of key facts across the range of curriculum areas.

We are using Grammarsaurus to guide and shape our curriculum in Writing, Spelling, Reading, Science, History, Geography, Art and Design Technology. These high quality units are sequenced and aligned with the National Curriculum and designed to allow time for quality teaching and learning. The Grammarsuarus curriculum is a 3D curriculum model. This means that each unit in each subject is designed to compliment current learning or review prior learning. We spend time learning substantive knowledge (the facts) within our units whilst providing opportunities to improve the disciplinary concepts (specific skills to the subject). The substantive knowledge and disciplinary concepts are strengthened and utilised through interconnected links between each unit of work.  This enables our children use our learning in different subjects rather than learning facts and not revisiting it. The children progressively learn about a concept and how this basic concept permeates subjects. This model allows seamless progress from KS1 into KS2. Cumulative assessments have been designed to assess learning throughout to allow teachers to decide whether review prior learning. Subjects are delivered in blocks of learning to dedicate the required curriculum time to ensure the best quality of learning and retention of knowledge. This gives the children maximum opportunity to succeed. Please see our 3D curriculum map at the bottom of the page! During the 26/27 academic year, we are using the Year 2 curriculum model in our Year 1&2 Class, the Year 3 curriculum model in Year 3&4 and the Year 6 curriculum model in Year 5&6.

Other platforms that we use at Stanion include: White Rose Maths, Essential Letters and Sounds for Phonics, Literacy Shed for Reading, ilearn2 for Computing, GetSet4Education for PE, Coram for PSHE, Language Angels for Spanish, Picture News for British Values and Music and Understanding Christianity for RE.

Please take time to look through and enjoy our different subject area pages to learn about the wonderful opportunities and engaging activities and topics, which our children will experience during their time at Stanion.

If you require further information about the curriculum we follow, please contact the school office on 01536 204896 and speak to Mr Jones or Mrs Findlay.
