British Values

British Values Promoting Fundamental British Values

At Stanion C.E. Primary School, we aim to prepare our children to become responsible, respectful and active citizens who make a positive contribution to life in modern Britain.

In accordance with Department for Education guidance, we promote the five fundamental British Values: democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

British Values are not taught in isolation; they are intertwined with our Stanion Super Friends and woven through our curriculum, collective worship and everyday school life. Our Christian vision and values complement these principles, helping children understand how to treat others, make positive choices and contribute to their community.

The Five Fundamental British Values

  • Democracy

  • The Rule of Law

  • Individual Liberty

  • Mutual Respect

  • Tolerance of Those with Different Faiths and Beliefs

How Do We Promote British Values at Stanion?

British Values are embedded throughout school life through:

  • Stanion Super Friends: Helping children understand and demonstrate positive values through their actions and relationships.

  • Weekly Picture News Collective Worships: Exploring current news stories, discussing different viewpoints and considering British Values in the wider world.

  • British Values Afternoon: Dedicated activities exploring what each value means and how children can apply it to their own lives.

  • Our curriculum: Developing understanding through subjects including History, RE and PSHE.

  • Collective worship: Reflecting on our Christian values and our responsibilities towards others.

  • Everyday practice: Promoting kindness, fairness, respect and tolerance through our daily interactions.

  • Positive role modelling: Staff demonstrate and reinforce these values through their words and actions.

  • Pupil voice: Encouraging children to express their opinions, listen to others and contribute to decisions.

Living Our Values Every Day

We believe British Values are most meaningful when children understand and put them into practice. Through our Stanion Super Friends, weekly Picture News assemblies, British Values Afternoon and everyday experiences, children learn to respect others, celebrate differences, make positive choices and understand their responsibilities.

Our aim is for every child to leave Stanion knowing not only what British Values are, but how to live them.
