Maths

At Stanion, we want all our children to enjoy maths and be challenged by it.

We use our school Super Friends, in lessons, to develop the learning behaviours our children need to be successful. We recognise the importance of resilience and perseverance especially as key to solving problems and learning new strategies.

We value the mistakes that children make as part of the learning process and teach our children that mistakes are a positive step towards mastering an area of learning.

In lessons, we learn through a balance of investigations, different representations, explaining our reasoning and using procedures. We teach the methods identified in the calculation and mental maths policies. Children are encouraged to review their own work and reflect on their learning.

We use Maths Powers: generalise, specialise, imagine, express, organise, classify, convince and conjecture to deepen our thinking and become well-rounded Mathematicians.

We value the importance of a solid knowledge of key facts including: number bonds to 10, 20 and 100 and times tables facts.

Here are some videos which talk through our policies and how we teach Maths.
